Randy Couture and Fedor Emelianenko have been flirting with the idea of a fight since almost the beginning of MMA time. Both men were involved in a tournament early in their careers where they were both eliminated surprisingly and we were denied their bout that night. Randy was a longtime standout in the UFC gaining both the Light heavyweight and Heavyweight titles and Fedor was the p4p king and heavyweight champion of PRIDE FC. After the closing of PRIDE it seemed like a given that these two would finally face off. Contract negotiations with Fedor went south and he was destined to go ply his trade outside of the UFC and the bout between “The Natural” and “The Last Emperor” seemed to slip through our fingers.
Until now….
Randy Couture was on Submission Radio this week and he expressed interest in facing Fedor at a Metamoris event:
“That would be interesting and certainly given the time to prepare and get back up into good, solid grappling and wrestling shape, that would be a lot of fun and I think, you know. I’m not sure how active Fedor is at this stage, you know him being retired as well, but I’m certainly no opposed to an idea like that.”
